The summer vacation is over. It’s true that time always flies fast. During the vacation, the weather was hot and I could not do much work, but I lived happily.
As the afternoon was hot, I did my work in the morning. I used to get up at 6:30 and take a walk in the garden for half an hour. After breakfast, I began reading English and Chinese and did some exercises in maths. Those took me three hours or more. I worked quite hard and made good progress(取得进步).

I came to England as an exchange student last September. I like life here, though sometimes I am a little homesick(想家的). The school life here is a little different from that in China.
In Britain, school starts between 8:30 and 9:00 am and finishes at about 4:00 pm. There are no lessons on weekends. Children usually have lunch at school. School meals are not very expensive and are quite good. But some children don’t like them and take sandwiches or go home for lunch.
In Britain, children have long summer vacations. The school year starts in the first week in September and ends in the third or fourth week in July the next year.
Education is free and compulsory (被强制的) for all the children between the ages from 5 to 16. The parents must make sure their children go to school, arrive on time and attend for the whole session (学期).
Children begin with primary education at the age of 5 and this usually lasts until they are 11. Then they move to secondary school, and there they stay until they reach sixteen.
